PRE-06 Live Practical Demonstration: Sihler's Whole Mount Nerve Staining and Modified Technique for Vessel Study
Moderator:

Ji-Hyun Lee (Gachon University, Korea, Republic of)

Hyung-Jin Lee (The Catholic University of Korea, Korea, Republic of)

Program or Description
Purpose

In this program, we aim to demonstrate not only the traditional Sihler’s whole mount nerve staining technique but also a ‘modified technique’ for vascular research. Through this program, participants will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn experimental techniques, and engage in knowledge sharing and problem-solving among participating anatomists. Furthermore, we intend to facilitate discussions about potential advancements in the Sihler’s staining technique for the future.

Significance

Sihler’s whole mount nerve staining is an experimental technique that allows for the examination of intramuscular nerve distribution. This long-standing traditional method has regained attention recently due to the active use of botulinum neurotoxin injections for cosmetic and rehabilitation purposes. This program enables participants to gain practical experimental experience by conducting Sihler’s whole mount nerve staining.

Programs

1. Preparation of reagents required for Sihler's staining
2. Step-by-Step demonstration and observation of Sihler's staining
3. Demonstration of latex injection into blood vessels
4. Transparency after latex injection: Step-by-Step specimen preparation
5. Observation of specimens after latex injection and Sihler’s staining
